Florida Girl Takes on Snow

Building a snowman is HARD work. How do children do this? Why are they smiling while they do it? I was sweating. And frowning. We couldn’t get the eyes to stay! Snowmen construction is not for the faint of heart.

Ooh chilly. Let’s have a snowball fight! Running around and dodging—the whole nine yards. Wait. I'm sweating? What is this and how am I supposed to dress for a snowball fight?!

Getting hit in the head with a snowball is funny until the snow melts and then your head and neck are not only cold but WET!…I’m looking at you, Joel :(

We ate some snow. Is that bad? It wasn’t yellow. It tasted ok. Refreshing, even. I hope that’s not bad…

There are different types of snow apparently. Hallmark movie snow, which is dry and powdery and floats down from the sky when the love interest unassumingly walks into the adorable town square. Then there’s the kind we got here in Madrid, which was dense and wet and blew in practically horizontally. It did not feel like a Hallmark movie when it hit me in the face :(

Spaniards + walking = annoying (see last blog). Spaniards + walking + snow = worse. Spaniards + walking + umbrellas in the snow = very VERY annoying.

You know those funny videos where someone cannonballs into a fresh snow pile and completely disappears? So funny. Right? Yeah, let someone else do that junk. Or do it right before you go home because you will be COLD afterward.

I will never make fun of snow pants again. I would’ve killed for some snow pants this weekend.

Babies are approximately 100x cuter in snow, because their noses and cheeks are all red and they’re extra squishy with all their snow gear. Also it is unbearably cute to watch them waddle in their little snow boots. Protecc the babeez!!

Snow can be dangerous, especially if you don’t have the proper gear or if you enjoy doing stupid things (definitely NOT speaking from personal experience). But it is so FUN and beautiful. I’m almost glad I didn’t have snow growing up because I got to experience the magic of it for the first time as a young adult. If you’ve never had the chance to play in snow before, I genuinely hope you do one day! ❄️

Manny the Snowman, the last (and tallest) snowman I built!
